It’s that time of year when college students are looking for summer jobs and internships! Which means businesses and ministries are recruiting! Power Ministries is in that process as well! Each summer we host one or more college interns to travel with and for us. The interns travel with Power Ministries to Handi-Camps where they work with the campers, teach and use their other gifts in leadership roles (crafts, music, sports, etc). Interns will also work in the Home Office learning the ins and outs of non-profits, preparing for camps and fund raising. Interns have also traveled and shared the ministry in presentations at church camps and VBS’s in a missions capacity.
David was an intern during the summer of 2014. He has worked with us for several years as a Handi-Camp volunteer since he was 14. He says it’s one of his favorite summer activities! He shares, “My first year of school (college) was coming to a close and all of the engineering internships that I had lined up fell through. So, I went home to New Albany and started looking for a job. After a week of looking with no luck, I posted on Facebook that I was in need of a job and Roy quickly commented back. I went to the office the next day to discuss the intern position and everything fell into place! The scholarship was what I needed for school, the job was fun and helped others, and I was surrounded by Christian leaders that allowed me to grow in my faith!”
Despite any nervousness he felt prior to beginning his internship, David came on board with energy and enthusiasm! He brought with him creativity and techno savvy that helped US out a great deal! Most of all he had great relationships with the campers! David said at first he was concerned that he might not be able to meet the needs of the campers in the way that he needed to, but that his fears were quickly diminished with training, leadership from the staff and leaning on other volunteers when he needed a hand. Philippians 4:13 was a constant for him throughout the internship: ‘I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.’ David says, “Looking back, I can’t help but notice that we get in the way of ourselves a lot of times. We think too much and make a situation different that it really is. I’ve learned that when it comes to camp, all you need is love. Everything else can be learned.”
When asked what his best piece of advice would be for anyone considering an internship with Power Ministries, David shared “Come prepared to love! A lot of these campers have been taught that they aren’t equal to “normal people” or that they are incapable of most things. And that’s where we step in to show them love and teach them that God’s love covers all and that they are absolutely perfect in God’s eyes. So be prepared to love and be loved.” I couldn’t have said it better myself!

The Staff and Families at Power Ministries hope that each of you had a wonderful Christmas with your families and are enjoying a happy and blessed 2015 so far!!!!
As the new year begins, we are quickly looking forward to all of the events that we have coming up! We have our very first Handi-Camp of the 2015 season in FEBRUARY!!!! So exciting!!! These camps and events cannot be done without the help of our prayer warriors and supporters! So, we ask that as you are also beginning a new year that you would consider partnering with us!
Our first and foremost need is PRAYER!!! Pray for health and safety during the upcoming camps! Pray that all of our volunteer spots are filled far in advance of the camp sessions! Pray that each camper that attends Handi-camps this year is able to see the love and power of Jesus first hand! Pray for our financial needs!
VOLUNTEERING!!! We are always in need of people willing to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our campers! Look at the volunteer link here on the website for more info, or call the home office with any questions you may have. We also need NURSES! Without nurses, we cannot have camp!!! Some of our campers have a number of medications and medical needs that for which it is of utmost importance to have someone with proper training to attend to those needs!
FINANCIAL SUPPORT!!! Power Ministries is a 501c3 Non-Profit ministry! Simply put, this means that Power Ministries runs solely on donations from our supporters and fund raisers! Without those contributions, there are no handi-camps, and there are no community outreach programs! If you or someone you know is looking for a organization to support, we’d love for you to consider making Power Ministries a part of your giving this year!
Again, Happiest of New Years to you and yours!!! We hope to see or hear from you this year!!!! To keep apprised of the camps and events of 2015, keep checking here and on our Facebook page!
It’s that time of year! The time of year when we reach out to our Power Ministries friends and family to stand with us! As a non profit organization, we depend on those that surround us to help keep the wheels in motion, and the dreams alive. So much goes into the functions and planning of Power Ministries each year, and there have been moments where that has been done on a bare bones budget! God has always provided, and he’s done this with people like you that have a heart for special needs ministry!! Stand with us as we prepare for the next steps in the ministry!!
Fall typically instills visions of Back-to-school, leaves changing colors, pumpkins and cooler weather. At Power Ministries, it still means all of those things, but it also means FALL RETREATS!!!
